School Prizes
The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies also administers a number of Student Prizes and Bursaries that are awarded on a competitive basis either annually or bi-annually.

The Faculty of Arts has a number of scholarships and prizes available to Graduate Research Students. Key prizes available to Graduate Research Students in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies include:

Lloyd Robson Memorial Award
The Lloyd Robson Memorial Award is an awarded to a Graduate Research Student working in the area of Australian History from the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies for the purposes of interstate travel. The award can be used to cover the costs of:
- Travel
- Accommodation
- Entrance fees and conference registrations
- Research material costs
- Travel insurance
- Per diems
Closing Dates 2012
There will be 2 Rounds in 2012
- Round 1: 24 April 2012
- Round 2: 31 July 2012
Please note: that the Lloyd Robson Memorial Award can be used in conjunction with other travelling grants schemes.

Prue Torney Memorial Prize
The Prue Torney Memorial Prize is a travelling scholarship awarded annually to a female Graduate Research student enrolled in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies for travel to Asia to further her research project. The award can be used to cover the costs of:
- Travel
- Accommodation
- Entrance fees and conference registrations
- Research material costs
- Travel insurance
- Per diems

Ian Robertson Travel Prize
The prize is awarded annually in October to a student enrolled in a Graduate Research Degree in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies to enable them to travel overseas to further their research project. The prize is best utilized as a top-up for a GRATS, MATS or ORES application. The award can be used to assist with the cost of:
- Travel
- Accommodation
- Entrance fees and conference registrations
- Research material costs
- Travel insurance

Dennis-Wettenhall Prize
The Dennis-Wettenhall Prize is awarded to a Graduate Research Student who completed their thesis in the area of Australian History between 1 April 2010 and 31 March 2011. The prize is awarded upon the recommendation of the School Research Higher Degrees Committee. Graduate Research Students interested in being considered should contact their supervisor or discipline research coordinator.

Caroline Kay Scholarship
This scholarship is open to Graduate Research candidates enrolled in a graduate research degree in the field of History in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies.
Candidates must be graduates of the University, and only under special circumstances can Council waive this requirement. The successful candidate must be in a position to complete a further 2 years of enrolled study at the University of Melbourne. The scholarship is payable in four installments over two years.
There can be only one scholarship holder at a time and applications are called for when the scholarship is vacant.

French History Research Higher Degree Scholarship
The French History Research Higher Degree Scholarship is a travelling scholarship awarded annually to Graduate Research Students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts or The Faculty of VCA and Music at the University of Melbourne who are studying an aspect of French History or Culture. The award is for overseas travel to France or elsewhere for academic research.
The scholarship is awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Arts and The Faculty of VCA and Music, and alternates between eligible candidates in the Faculty of Arts and The Faculty of VCA and Music.

Jessie Webb Scholarship
The Jessie Webb Scholarship provides funding for an enrolled student to spend 'a season in Greece under the direction of the British School of Archaeology at Athens or any other similar school'.
Interested applicants need to be aware that the conditions of award of the Scholarship stipulate that the successful applicant will be required to spend a season (3-6 months) in Greece under the direction of the British School of Archaeology at Athens or any other similar school in Greece. The prize is paid in two instalments the second of which is paid only after the recipient completes and submits a progress report half way during their stay.

Ernest Scott Prize
Emily Scott founded the Ernest Scott Prize in memory of her husband Emeritus Professor Sir Ernest Scott Knight Bachelor who for twenty-three years was professor of History at the University of Melbourne.
The Prize is open to Graduate Research student and Research staff and commemorates his interest in the development of Australian historical studies and is awarded to work based upon original research, which is, in the opinion of the judges, the most distinguished contribution to the history of Australia or New Zealand or to the history of colonisation.
